Sadly, they often struggle to recall the special moments in between. Like Uncle Dave losing his balance on the dance floor headbanging to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, or just how angelic the flower girl looked in her pixie-style dress. Your wedding becomes one complete blur as the day plays out on autopilot. And often its because brides are so caught up on the day being exactly as they imagine it to be, that the cherished moments which really make your big day special can be easily forgotten.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><img src="../blogimages/264973510/pretty-and-punk0001-managing-wedding-stress-and-mindfulness-wedding-tips.jpg" style="width: 1260px;"></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="line-height: 115%; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">Mindfulness is a very old concept used in many religions. It means to pay more attention to the present moment, and to your thoughts and feelings, which can be difficult when you are trying to please your other half and both sides of your family. Mindfulness suggests to "live in the moment". It is when we become more aware of the present moment, we begin to experience a myriad of things that may have easily passed unnoticed.<font color="#0e101a"><span style="font-size: 12pt; background-color: yellow;"><o:p></o:p></span></font></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="line-height: 115%; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;"><o:p style=""> </o:p></span><span style="color: rgb(14, 16, 26); font-size: 12pt;">So how can you practise mindfulness whilst planning your wedding?</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><u><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%; color:#0E101A"> </span><span style="color: rgb(14, 16, 26); font-size: 12pt;">Begin to notice each day</span></u></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%; color:#0E101A">As we go about our everyday life our body and mind are constantly taking in various stimuli around us. Give yourself a minute to stop and interrupt the autopilot mode. Take a moment to ask yourself the following:<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%; color:#0E101A">What am I hearing, seeing, feeling and tasting? It is when we engage in these things that it can start to give us a new perspective on life.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%; color:#0E101A"> </span><u style="color: rgb(14, 16, 26); font-size: 12pt;">Start small and keep it regular</u></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%; color:#0E101A">All it takes is 5-10 minutes during your day to practise mindfulness. Taking a walk on your lunch break or sitting in the park whilst eating your sandwich are two perfect moments to focus awareness on whats going on around you.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><u style="color: rgb(14, 16, 26); font-size: 12pt;">Try something different</u></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%; color:#0E101A">Taking a different route to work or trying something new and adventurous for your taste buds for lunch can help you notice the world in a new way. Break out of your monotonous habits and see what else the world has to offer. Instead of arriving dead on time, you could arrive 30 minutes earlier than your scheduled wedding venue viewing time and explore the grounds on your own whilst stopping to take in all your surroundings, and the new scents and sounds.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><img src="../blogimages/264973510/pretty-and-punk0004-managing-wedding-stress-and-mindfulness-wedding-tips.jpg" style="width: 100%;"></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%; color:#0E101A"><u>Acknowledge your thoughts</u><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%; color:#0E101A">Mindfulness isnt necessarily about clearing your mind and making thoughts disappear. Often when people try to practise mindfulness they can find that their mind becomes crowded with thought and worries. Instead, try to imagine your thoughts as buses coming and going without you having to board them. The thoughts then leave when the bus continues on its journey. This might be hard to begin with, but be persistent. If you struggle with a busy mind you can also try yoga and walking.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><u style="color: rgb(14, 16, 26); font-size: 12pt;">How are you feeling?</u></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%; color:#0E101A">It may be helpful to identify and bring awareness to the chatter circulating in your mind e.g. Heres the worrying thought that my family may not be on time for my wedding or I am feeling anxious about my first dance. We often tend to suffer in silence when things are worrying us. Acknowledging these thoughts can help us to process and deal with the issue at hand. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%; color:#0E101A"> </span><span style="color: rgb(14, 16, 26); font-size: 12pt;">Here is a quick five-minute exercise you can practise anywhere:</span></p><ol style="margin-top:0cm" start="1" type="1"> <li class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#0E101A">Take a seat somewhere comfortable where you wont be disturbed. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and relax all the muscles in your body, releasing any tension. </span><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%"><o:p></o:p></span></li> <li class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#0E101A">Minute one: Pay attention to any sensations or feelings happening in your body. A tickle in your throat, a slight itch on the crown of your head. Perhaps the feeling of air entering your lungs. What do you feel?</span><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%"><o:p></o:p></span></li> <li class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#0E101A">Minute two: Listen to all the sounds happening around you. A singing bird outside the window, or a creaky door. Or again your breathing. What can you hear?</span><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%"><o:p></o:p></span></li> <li class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#0E101A">Minute three: What flavours are you tasting? Maybe you're feeling thirsty and your mouth tastes quite sour. Or perhaps you still have the delicious flavour of lunch lingering. What can you taste?</span><span lang="EN" style="font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:115%"><o:p></o:p></span></li> <li class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#0E101A">Minute four: What interesting aromas can you smell? Perhaps the damp mud from the ground. Or you can smell your freshly washed clothes hanging on the washing line.</span><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%"><o:p></o:p></span></li> <li class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#0E101A">Minute five: If you are struggling to get out of your head and into the moment, grasp your hands tight for 5 seconds and then release. Notice how your hand feels; pay attention to the sensation for as long as you can. This helps you to become more physically aware in the present moment.</span><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%"><o:p></o:p></span></li> </ol><p class="MsoNormal"><img src="../blogimages/264973510/pretty-and-punk0005-managing-wedding-stress-and-mindfulness-wedding-tips.jpg" style="width: 1260px;"></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%; color:#0E101A">Take your time when practising mindfulness. For some people it comes easily, while for others it might not feel so natural. Its important to remember that with holistic practices such as mindfulness, you tend to see the benefits over a long period. There are many benefits to practising mindfulness and as Professor Mark Williams, former director of the Oxford Mindfulness Centre says Awareness of this kind also helps us notice signs of stress or anxiety earlier and helps us deal with them better.
